Effect of Collisions on Electrostatic Probe Measurements

چکیده
An experimental investigation of the length effect as a function of collisions in the sheath of a slightly ionized hypersonic flow regime for cylindrical ion collecting probes is undertaken. The results indicate a strong dependence of the length effec: on the number of collisions in the sheath and also on the degree of ionization of the media. This research was supported by the Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Department of Defense and was monitored by U.S. Army Research Office-Durham, Box CM, Duke Station, North Carolina 27706, under Contract No. DAHC04-69-C-0077.

Use of heavy-Rydberg ion-pair states to probe dissociative electron attachment
Electron transfer in collisions between Rydberg atoms and targets that attach free low-energy electrons can lead to the formation of heavy-Rydberg ion-pair states comprising a positive-negative ion pair that orbit each other at large separations weakly bound by their mutual electrostatic attraction. It is shown that measurements of the velocity distribution of the ion-pair states produced in su...
متن کاملElectrostatic fields near the active site of human aldose reductase: 1. New inhibitors and vibrational stark effect measurements.
Vibrational Stark effect spectroscopy was used to measure electrostatic fields in the hydrophobic region of the active site of human aldose reductase (hALR2). A new hALR2 inhibitor was designed and synthesized that contains a nitrile probe with a Stark tuning rate of 0.77 cm-1/(MV/cm). Mutations to amino acid residues in the vicinity of the nitrile functional group were selected based on electr...
متن کاملScanning hall probe microscopy technique for investigation of magnetic properties
Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy (SHPM) is a scanning probe microscopy technique developed to observe and image magnetic fields locally. This method is based on application of the Hall Effect, supplied by a micro hall probe attached to the end of cantilever as a sensor. SHPM provides direct quantitative information on the magnetic state of a material and can also image magnetic induction under a...

متن کاملThe effect of patch potentials in Casimir force measurements determined by heterodyne Kelvin probe force microscopy.
Measurements of the Casimir force require the elimination of the electrostatic force between the surfaces. However, due to electrostatic patch potentials, the voltage required to minimize the total force may not be sufficient to completely nullify the electrostatic interaction. Thus, these surface potential variations cause an additional force, which can obscure the Casimir force signal. In thi...
